Our Church
College Heights Baptist Church is an
evangelical church serving as a family of
faith touching lives with God's love.

Founded in 1953, our facility (built and
extended in the 1960s) is centrally
located on a major thoroughfare,
one-half mile from Kansas State
University and Manhattan Christian
College. Our sanctuary, remodeled in the
1980s, seats 280. We have 85 resident
members with an average attendance of

We are a Baptist church that has chosen
to enter into a cooperative relationship
with the SBC while allowing members to
designate funds in support of CBF. We
provide service and leadership
opportunities for both men and women.
Our worship services embrace the joy of
blended contemporary and traditional styles.

The church has no debt. Budgeted staff
positions include a full-time pastor, and
part-time staff: music director, youth
coordinator (vacant), church secretary
and custodian. Our budget for 2014 is
$118,000 with 13% of the budget
directed toward community, state, US
and world associations and missions.

Bible-centered teaching and preaching.

active ministry to internationals in our
community and recognizes the need for
growth and outreach.

Our Position
Since the church is poised for growth,
we will require a minister with strong
conviction, vision, and energy to lead
and motivate the body toward the
purpose God has planned for us. A
candidate for this ministry will
shepherd, disciple and empower us to
grow closer to the Lord and each other
while meeting our community's needs.

We are seeking caring candidates whose
daily walk with the Lord is evident in
their Bible teaching/preaching skills. All
candidates must hold a seminary master's
degree with pastoral experience
preferred. Applications should be
submitted with full family support.

The projected pastor's salary package
(salary, housing, health insurance and
retirement) would be in the mid $40s.

Our Community
Settled in 1855, Manhattan is a growing
city with a population approaching
53,000 including both the student
population from Kansas State University
as well as Fort Riley soldiers and their
families residing in Manhattan.
Manhattan's citizens tend to represent a
younger profile (median age: 24.3) with
higher levels of education (49% of adult
population have a bachelor's degree.)

Manhattan offers a high quality of life
with special emphases on public parks,
city services, cultural events, and
outstanding public schools. The city
offers an excellent environment in which
to raise a family.

Located in the beautiful Flinthills of
Kansas, our city is accessible to major
roadway systems and is 54 miles west of
Topeka, the State capital, and 125 miles
west of Kansas City. Our regional

Senior Pastor Job Description




I. OBJECTIVE: To serve as the Senior Pastor of College Heights Baptist Church,
   Manhattan KS while seeking God's Word and leading the congregation in spiritual
    growth and evangelism.

1. A personal testimony of salvation along with an up-to-date walk with the Lord.
2. A man of daily fervent prayer and Bible study.
3. Acknowledges and believes that he has a calling from God to be a Pastor according to
    1st Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
4. Models a life of integrity and love that represents Jesus Christ within the church and
5. Agrees with the Statement of Faith of the SBC and supports related ministries.
6. Seminary Master's Degree is preferred.
7. Five years or more pastoral related experience preferred


A. Preaching/Teaching
1. Serve as primary preacher/teacher and leader of the church.
2. Will preach/teach inspired gospel-centered, doctrinally sound messages that     encourage
    a response of obedience and commitment to God's Word.
3. Has the ability to effectively communicate to the audience.
4. Has a heart for the lost and challenges unbelievers to receive Christ and to grow in
    their faith.
5. Teaches/preaches the Word so that individuals can grow and know God more

B. Pastoral Care (Shepherd)
1. Serves as an under-shepherd of Jesus Christ, primarily concerned about the spiritual
    growth of each individual, while guiding and protecting the flock.
2. Has a servant's heart and desires to be available, with God's help, to effectively
    minister to the needs of the congregation individually and as a whole.
3. Spends a reasonable amount of time visiting members in hospitals, nursing homes,
    etc., or delegates responsibilities to other staff, deacons, and lay leaders when

C. Worship Leader
1. Will lead or delegate the leadership of congregational services in meaningful
    God-centered worship.

D. Vision and Evangelism
1. Believe in and actively pursue God-inspired Church growth through innovative
    Church ministries.
2. Seek God's Word and leading for CHBC along with other church leaders.
3. Develop and train individuals to become more effective leaders within the church,
    families and homes.
4. Help individuals identify their spiritual gifts and encourage them to utilize their gifts
    within the body of Christ.
5. Lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission and sharing the Gospel to reach
    the lost for Christ.
6. Support and encourage the mission programs of our church.
7. As a mission program in our own backyard, support ministry to a large international
    community here in Manhattan.
8. Be involved in community events and use them as an opportunities to share the
    Gospel and develop positive relationships.

1. Maintains a positive, organized atmosphere within the staff.
2. Has administrative skills, including the ability to supervise, mentor, evaluate and
    provide feedback to staff.
3. Directly accountable to the Church and Deacon Board.
4. Participates in professional growth opportunities to be approved by the Church.
